The Datum Report

Standing view · pay · Belfast

Typical monthly pay in Belfast has been rising, though other measures here have run the other way.

mixed, held with tentative confidence, formed on 31 August 2026 from movements in 2026-07.

Median monthly pay in Belfast rose from £2,406 in April 2025 to £2,539 in July 2026. The path was not continuous: pay fell to £2,391 in June 2025 and £2,388 in August, recovered to £2,432 in September and £2,493 by February 2026, slipped to £2,462 in March, then rose to £2,515 in June and £2,539 in July. Five of the eight readings are higher than the one before, and pay ends the period well above where it began. The reversals within that are small relative to the overall increase.

How this was decided

A view is formed only where the evidence names a figure you can check. Each movement listed as a reason had to be large enough to matter and distinctive in at least one way — unusual against this area's own history, unusual against comparable areas, or sustained over several periods. A movement shared with peers counts for less, because it says something about the country rather than about Belfast. Where no figure supports a direction we hold no view rather than a hedged one.
