The claimant count in Torfaen rose to 2,150 in February 2026, then improved to 2,055 in July, when the proportion of residents aged 16 to 64 claiming was recorded as favourable at 3.6%, having eased to 3.5% in December 2025. Among the economically inactive, retired people fell from 12.7% in the year to December 2025 to 10.7% by March 2026, and 11.1% were students. Four of the six readings moved favourably.
