The employment rate in Carmarthenshire rose to 75.5% in the year to March 2026 and economic inactivity fell to 22.4%. The claimant count moved the other way after April: it improved to 3,130 that month, with 2.8% of residents aged 16 to 64 claiming, then rose to 3,195 in May and 3,265 in July, and the rate to 2.9% in May. Self-employment accounted for 8.1% of residents aged 16 to 64. Two survey measures moved favourably while the monthly count has risen in each of its most recent readings.
