The employment rate in South Derbyshire fell to 79.5% in the year to March 2026 and economic inactivity rose to 19.2%. The claimant count rose to 1,750 in February 2026, improved to 1,670 in May when the proportion of residents aged 16 to 64 claiming eased to 2.3% from 2.4% in February, then rose to 1,700 in June. Two survey measures moved unfavourably while the claimant figures pointed both ways.
