Business deaths in the Isle of Wight rose to 120 in the second quarter of 2025, then fell to 75 in the third and 110 in the second quarter of 2026, the last two recorded as favourable against the usual pattern for their quarters. Business births fell to 90 in the second quarter of 2026, below closures in that quarter. Fewer closures is favourable, but formations now run below them, so the two measures do not fully agree.
