The share of Barnsley pupils reaching grade 4 or above in GCSE English and maths fell to 59.2% in 2023/24, then rose to 63.8% in 2024/25. Attainment at grade 5 or above followed the same path, falling to 41.2% and recovering to 45% a year later. Both measures ended higher than they began, and both moved in the same direction in each year, so the two agree. Two academic years is a short record, and a single year's improvement in annual data is not yet evidence of a change in trend.
