Standing view · labour_market · Mid Ulster
mixed, held with tentative confidence, formed on 31 August 2026 from movements in 2026-07.
The claimant count in Mid Ulster fell across the period, from 2,400 in December 2024 to 2,265 in April 2025, 2,170 in October, 1,955 in December, 1,975 in March 2026, 1,935 in May and 1,995 in June, with 2,465 recorded in February 2025. Six of the eight readings were recorded as favourable against the usual pattern for their months. The count is well below its level eighteen months earlier despite two unfavourable readings along the way.
A view is formed only where the evidence names a figure you can check. Each movement listed as a reason had to be large enough to matter and distinctive in at least one way — unusual against this area's own history, unusual against comparable areas, or sustained over several periods. A movement shared with peers counts for less, because it says something about the country rather than about Mid Ulster. Where no figure supports a direction we hold no view rather than a hedged one.
