The claimant count in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough rose from 17,365 in December 2025 to 18,315 in February 2026, and the proportion of residents aged 16 to 64 claiming rose to 3.1% over the same period. The rate then eased to 3% in April and remained there in June. Claims rose over the winter and the rate has since given back that increase, so the direction over the period and the direction now are not the same. Students made up 28.7% of the economically inactive in the year to March 2026.
